Unit 1.

Activity 1

In this music video, they added a short movie were they included Adam Levine as the main character. However, the first scene was shot as a Medium Long Shot (MLS), were they showed him and the background were it signifies the destruction he just made and the devastation in his face. This starts of the scene. Furthermore, they used a low angle shot were they framed his whole body but in a low angle. Where it shows were he is and shows us the clothing he is wearing right now. Then afterwards they used  another camera shot which is a medium close up (MCU) were it shows more of his facial expressions being shown as it gives more of a realistic feeling for the character as it signifies him being fed up. Nonetheless, they transitioned to the main focus of the story as they show us before what happened. They used a lot of camera shots like for example: Close Up and  Mid shot to show us how he works everyday, making the scene more fluid and professional, as it signifies that Adam's character is doing his job normally. Furthermore, they used another camera shot which is a tracking shot were they focus on a woman walking, signifying that she will probably be the main focus of Adam's character. Where they used a high aperture to block out the extras as they fully focus on the woman walking which signifies the importance of her being there. They also used a long shot were they frame the robbers and the people inside it signifying the more impactful and makes the scene more intense. They also used a worms eye view for the robber pointing his gun down which signifies the realism and makes the audience feel like they are part of it. Furthermore, they used a wide angle shot to establish the robbers and the hostages making the scene more movie-like. They also used another camera shot which is a Hand-Held camera shot were it gives more of a realist and more intense showdown between him and the robbers, as the camera is more fidgety. They used an extreme long shot to frame every car chasing the main character's car, which makes the scene more enjoyable and makes the scene more fast-paced and also makes it more of a suspense. Also used a tilting shot were they show Adam driving away from the destruction.

Stereotypical and Counter-stereotypical representation of gender.

489946-800w.jpg

In this magazine cover, they represent the male model as more masculine. Where the stereotypes of male being more 'macho'. This can be shown as the model is shirtless, were it's usually normal for someone to be in shape to become a model. Furthermore, they used a Medium Long Shot (MLS) to show the features of the male model. Where his posture and hand placement signifies the more serious look and 'intimidation' being shown. As the stereotypes of males being more dominant. Nonetheless, they used the colour blue as it signifies the more masculine side of the magazine. As blue is usually associated with boys and not girls. Furthermore, they used more of a dark lighting were it's to tone his body, to make it look more appealing towards the audience. As they used 'Super Model' to indicate that you should look like him

to become a model, or succeed in the modelling industry. The model's NVC (Non-Verbal-Communication) shows us that this model is very manly as his facial expressions are more masculine, were his jawline is showing, which tell us that stereotypically the male is usually the one with the best jawline which is one of the best features of a man according to the stereotypes of male.

pure-pinball.jpg

In this videogame cover which is the old version of XBOX. They represent females to be very sexualised and quite submissive with the lack of clothing they are wearing. For more income, were people will be very attractive to it which makes them buy it just for these woman. This is quite a stereotype towards woman as they make these woman quite fit and 'perfect', as in the eyes of society, is that when a woman has a perfect body, she will be classified as perfect or the perfect human body for females. Also these woman are somewhat Caucasian, as the stereotypes of white people being the perfect human, like they added blonde, brunette etc... Which can signify the colours that makes them perfect or a colour of perfection.

The creators of this cover emphasises on 'American Pin Ball Reborn', as this can indicate that these should be what Americans want or can say that them being sexualised is the American way.

Furthermore, with these stereotypes of females being sexualised and weak. This cover subverts the stereotypes of females being weak and dependant. As this cover shows how the gender has turned tables, with the females holding weapons like: Guns, Kantana etc...  This challenges the stereotypes of females being heroines not the heroes. As now the creators created the females to be the main characters, and also heroes in their story. Nonetheless, to show how submissive the females are, is that the girl holding the Kantana is sitting in a sexualised position, were she somewhat spreads her legs. In addition the other females are doing somewhat sexual poses. Where this shows us that the creators are objectifying females, indicating that they are trophies.

Edward Kenway's Story:

Before Edward Kenway was known for being feared and his daring acts, he was once a pirate serving his captain. Whilst he was fighting for his life, struggling to survive the monstrous waves and gun shots, he encountered a glimpse of a hooded man, the man was fast, quick on his feet. His crew struggled to fight off their enemies, with an upper hand, Kenway improvised, slowly destroying his enemies ship. However, they lost the fight were his crew and his captain drowned. He was washed up the shore with the hooded man as well. Were they started to fight each other, with Kenway getting the upper hand. This is were his story started. Throughout the story he met with many famous people, enemies and loyal friends and started to follow in a 'cult' or group of Assassins, were he followed their beliefs and started to work for them, killing off  templars (Enemies of the Assassins). In addition, he was ranked and brought into the Assassins Creed Brotherhood as a Master Assassin.

Edward_Render.png

Edwards narrative is quite stereotypical, as he was a pirate were normally movies depict pirates to be white as they are usually the main focus of the story or the captain of a ship. As Edward was quite a high rank whilst he was working alongside his captain as this signifies the stereotypes of white pirates being above everyone. As back in the day, slavery was quite a massive thing for Pirate Captains. Furthermore, Edwards appearance is quite stereotypical as usually pirates are imagined to be white as quite every pirate film has a white man who is the main focus, in addition they created Edward as a white man with blue eyes and a good jawline. This signifies the stereotypes of white people being the perfect body and features. Furthermore, his appearance is quite stereotypical for a pirate/assassin, as they joined the clothing of a pirate into an assassin outfit. They used mainly 4 colours consisting with blue, red, brown and black with these colours indicating more of a pirate look, as many pirates have red colours to signify the power and ranking they are in. Also they use a lot of baggy fabrics as they are showing a sense of realism for the character, as normally Pirate Captains have a lot of clothing. Nonetheless, Edward is created with long hair as this subverts that men are not allowed to have long hair as it have a sense of feminisms.

Shimura would prove to be both a mentor and parental figure to Jin, with their bond becoming that of a father and son.(https://ghostoftsushima.fandom.com/wiki/Jin_Sakai)

Nonetheless, they used an Asian man as it's quite common for these types of stories to be based around South-Asians. As the stereotypes of Asians being skilled with Martial Arts. Thing also used quite clothing which suits with the storyline and the stereotypes, as normally 'Ninjas' are usually wearing headbands like the one we see above. Also this links with the stereotypes of Asian parents being quite strict towards there children. As the information says "he was raised in a strict, disciplined environment, trained by his father". Which backs the stereotypes of Asian parents being very strict.

Which can be seen as they guided the camera into the leaders face, using a Medium Close Up shot, were they made him look serious and intimidating. Furthermore, they slowly use a panning shot were they feature two of the main characters : Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal. They also use non-diegetic sounds to make the two characters worried and scared, with their NVC. With Matt Damon's mouth being slightly opened which can signify him being confused and questioning whether his going to live or die. Nonetheless, they continued to use non-dietetic sound were they place it when the whole army is waiting for the monsters arrival. With the sound being quite eerie and mysterious, which can indicate that the monsters can be unpredictable. Which also links with them capturing a glimpse of the monsters kingdom, with the sound being sudden and sounding more like a heart beat were they combine the sound and the screeching of the monsters, giving it a sense of fear and realism.

Furthermore, they decided to create the scene more engaging for the audience, when the fireballs were launched, it also took us, which makes the scene more fast-pace and gives the audience a sense of excitement and shows a sense of participation for the audience.
